April 4, 2022 Green Ellsworth and its Partners investing in the Planet with Earth Day/Arbor Day Projects. The Ellsworth Garden Club will be busy beginning the week of April 18 planting trees. Along with many others across the country, Mayor Dale Hamilton has proclaimed April 29 Arbor Day in Ellsworth. As weather permits, volunteers from the Ellsworth Garden Club, Downeast Trout Unlimited, Frenchman Bay Conservancy and Green Ellsworth will be planting 80 trees at the new Community Tree Nursery at the Jordan Homestead Preserve on the Bayside Road in Ellsworth. February 21, 2021 The Green Plan for the City of Ellsworth has been released for public review. Its goal is to create an action plan that will enable Ellsworth to become a model green community. Green Ellsworth, the organization which has evolved out of this citizens’ planning initiative to oversee the implementation of the Plan, has posted the full document on its website (www.greenellsworth.org). It is posted as a consultation draft with an invitation for the community to review it and provide input on any suggested changes or additions by March 31, after which it will be finalized. On August 8 and 10, 2019 Heather McCargo, founder and Executive Director of the Wild Seed Project, will be in Ellsworth for two events designed to provide a better understanding of native plants and inspire their use in landscaping residential, commercial or public properties. On August 8 at 7:00PM in the Moore Community Center at 133 State Street in Ellsworth, McCargo will do a slide talk, Show Me the Native Plants. On August 10 at 9:30AM at Birdsacre (Rt. 3 in Ellsworth), McCargo will also lead one of her popular plant walks. This is a rain or shine event and reservations are required. Call 667-8878 by Aug 4. On Monday, March 18, 2019 at 7:00PM at the Moore Community Center, Ellsworth, the Ellsworth Garden Club will host a public program on Bees & Society. Featured presenter will be Dr. Kourtney Collum, Partridge Chair in Food and Sustainable Agriculture Systems at the College of the Atlantic. Her illustrated talk will focus on the role that people can play in promoting and protecting bees and other pollinators. Click for press release or poster.

Monday, August 20 at 7:00PM the Ellsworth Garden Club in support of the Ellsworth Green Planning process will host a talk on Planting in a Post-Wild World by the internationally recognized landscape architect, Thomas Rainer. Based in Washington, DC, Rainer works at the intersection of ecology, horticulture and design. Click for press release or poster.

April 16, 2018 Ellsworth Garden club holds a speaker program on "Treeing our City: A Vision for a Public/Private Canopy" given by tree specialist Tabatha White. Click for Ellsworth American article.

June 28, 2017 At the recent spring convention of the Garden Club Federation of Maine in Freeport, the Ellsworth Garden Club received a major award from National Garden Clubs, Inc. The Club was the Overall Winner in the Blue Star Memorial Landscaping Highway Marker competition. A National Garden Clubs program for honoring veterans who have served their country, the Blue Star Highway system extends across thousands of miles of highways in all 50 states.
